Well we've survived the first week of Kindergarten! There have been a few tears, lots of smiles, and a new routine to get used to. Audrey is really loving it, though! Her teacher is Mrs. Dianne Calahan. Audrey already has a couple of friends in her class, too!
I surprised her on her 3rd day by going to have lunch with her. She was so happy to have me and Ellie sit with her in the cafeteria! Then she got to bring home the class Gingerbread Man to play with! We took pictures with him and filled out his journal to send back the next day.
All in all, it has been a successful start to the school year! :)

He gives and takes away...
Life is hard. Especially over the past year, it has been extra hard for us.
I have not kept up with the blog as much as usual, mostly just because we've been so busy.
But we have had so many major changes in our lives and so many transitions in the past year, it is crazy. It has been an emotional roller coaster!
But it all comes down to this: He gives and takes away. But my heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be your name.
We don't know the reasons or the why's or the timing of events in our lives, but we do know that God is faithful and that He will provide!
Last summer, after months and months of testing and interviewing, Matt was officially accepted into the Police Academy for MNPD. This is what he wanted to do and he had finally made it! Out of 1200 applicants, he was 1 of 40 that made it into the Academy. Just before it started, God was telling him that it just wasn't the right timing. He struggled back and forth before deciding that he was going to hold off on it for now. The next month, we found out we were pregnant with Ellie! We also needed to sell our house so that we could get a 4 bedroom house for the kids, and also to move into Williamson County for schools. So it just confirmed his decision to not do the Academy then.
So between August-November we sold our house and bought a new one in Nolensville! It was a crazy time, packing and moving and living with Matt's parents for 3 weeks...all while pregnant and having horrible morning sickness! Also during the time we lived with them, Matt's mother fell and broke her hip and needed a hip replacement. We moved into our house the day before Thanksgiving. It was weird living in a new house and a new town with new neighbors...even though we are only about 6-7 minutes from our old house. But again, it was a transition we had to get used to. I am still not used to our new house even now!
On Christmas morning, we found out we were having a baby girl! YAY! We were all so excited! My morning sickness went away and we began preparing the baby's room and buying baby girl stuff. We also spent LOTS of time trying to decide on a name! So things were getting somewhat back to "normal".
Until March 9th...Matt called me at about 2:00 that afternoon and told me he had just been laid off from his job of the past 7 years. It sucked. I immediately thought, what in the world are going to do now?!! We just bought a new house and have a house payment, we have two kids, and our third is due in just 10 weeks! What will we do if we have no health insurance to cover the delivery in May?!!! I was freaking out for a while. But his company ended up giving him a severance package, including the health insurance to cover until the end of May. Praise the Lord!
Fast forward to May...my grandmother, Nana (my mother's mother), was 95 years old and had been going down hill over the past couple of weeks. On the morning of May 2nd, she went to be with the Lord. Then just after midnight on May 3rd, my sister Jenny welcomed her third baby girl into the world! It was as if Nana had gone up to heaven and sent this little angel down! Peyton was perfectly healthy at 8 lbs 10 oz!
Exactly one week later, we welcomed our little Ellie into the world at 12:12pm! She was also perfectly healthy at 7 lbs 11 oz and she was absolutely beautiful!!! Jenny and I were both sad, though, that Nana never got to meet our newest babies.
More good news came in June, as Matt got a new job! He is working at Synnex in LaVergne as the Receiving Supervisor. He is happy there, but he knows this is not where God wants him to be permanently. He has started the process with MNPD again, and just found out that he passed the initial tests so he is moving forward in the process to get into the Academy again. He definitely feels that this is what God is calling him to do, and he feels that the timing is right this time! He has several more tests and interviews to do before being accepted, so we are just praying that it all works out.
Just 5 days ago, we got a call from my Mom telling us that my Grandmother Joyce in Georgia (my dad's mother) had unexpectedly passed away. It was definitely a shock to us all. She was 81 years old and was doing just fine. Still living by herself, still going to all her Sunday School classes and Bible groups, going grocery shopping, etc. The Lord was ready to call her up, and it was just her time. We went down to Georgia for the funeral, and it was a beautiful service. I don't think any of us were ready to let her go yet, though. Just a few days before she passed, I told my Dad that we wanted to go down to see her soon so she could meet Ellie. Instead we went for a funeral. It definitely makes me sad that neither one of my grandmothers were able to meet or hold Ellie. But I know they are both smiling down on her from heaven!
It is odd to think that I have no living grandparents anymore. It makes you realize how important family really is, and that it is up to all of us to carry on our family traditions and to stick together. I definitely feel like something is missing, and I know that when Nana and Grandmother Joyce left us they both took a piece of our hearts with them.
All of these transitions and emotions have been hard...some joyous and exciting and some sad.
But we know HE is with us every step of the way!

Party Like a Rockstar!
That's what Ellie likes to do...all night!
We are in that sleep-deprived bliss and I am counting down the days til she sleeps through the night! Here is a typical schedule for us right now:
-get up around 6:30-7:30 for the day
-nurse Ellie
-she'll go back to sleep in her swing for a while but the other two are up so no more sleep for me!
-nurse again every 2 hours all day long, with periods of sleep in between
-try to go to bed around 9:30 but don't actually get her good and asleep til about 11
-wake up at about 3:00am to nurse (sometimes throw in a 1:00am nursing too)
-wake again around 5-5:30 to nurse
-start over!
You know how everyone says "Sleep when the baby sleeps!" Yeah...IF it's your only child. No sleep for the weary around here with a 3 and 5 year old, too!
These days and nights are so tiring but so worth it...Ellie's sweet cheeks just show it is all paying off! She is 7 weeks old today! We love her more than she knows!

Ellie's Arrival!
Our sweet Ellie is here and we could not be happier! She made her grand entrance into this world about 2 1/2 weeks ago on Thursday, May 10, 2012. My due date was May 17, so I was very happy she came a week early!
Here we are at the hospital in labor:
I'll give you a little "birth story"...
I had gone to the doctor 2 days before for my 39 week checkup. I was just 1 cm dilated and they said the baby's head was slightly lower than it had been the week before. But no major changes. I made my appointment for a week later and fully expected to still be pregnant, but was really hoping to not be! On Wednesday, May 9th, we ran a bunch of errands and got both the kids haircuts. We also ate at Las Palmas and took a walk in the neighborhood that evening...not sure, but I think one of those must have helped me go into labor! I must have somehow known something was going to happen, because that day I also loaded some stuff into the back of Matt's car...the baby's carseat, diaper bag, the Boppy pillow, and little gifts for Audrey and Brady to open at the hospital! That night I told Matt I really wanted to take a bath and shave my legs before I went to bed! Ha. It didn't happen, though, because I was just too tired and really just wanted to get in bed and go to sleep. So I went to sleep at about 10:30pm. Well I woke up at 2:00am because I had to pee. Which was totally normal, considering I usually got up at least twice during the night to use the restroom. I rolled out of bed sort of half-asleep, waddle into the bathroom in the dark, and about halfway in there I felt a gush! Yep- my water had broken!! So I turned on the light and see a messy sight! I went back in the bedroom and woke up Matt to tell him. I was excited but nervous now, too! I definitely wasn't feeling any contractions, though. So I called my Mom to tell her, then I tried to call my sister Jenny who is an OB nurse at Vanderbilt...but never could get a hold of her all night since she had a 1-week old baby herself and doesn't keep the phone in her room at night. So I laid there, walked around, took a shower, shaved my legs, got dressed, tidied up some things at the house, made the kids lunches for school that day, ate some cereal, finished packing my hospital bag, etc. Still not noticing any contractions, though. Around 5:00am I decided to call my doctor's office just to see what they wanted me to do. The nurse told me to go ahead and go to the hospital! Aahhhh!!!
So Matt's sister Jenny came over to stay with the kids and take them to school that day. We arrived at the hospital at about 6:30am and I went to the OB assessment center. I was 4cm dilated and 70% effaced when I got there! Yay! So they hooked me up to some IV fluids and took me up to a room. At about 9:00am I got my epidural, which I was very nervous about. Even though it was my third, the epidural experience never gets better. Matt and the nurse, Meg, helped me get through it and it was nice once it kicked in! The epidural did cause my blood pressure to go down, though, so they had to give me something to get it back up. For the next 2 hours or so, I was not in pain but I was shaking so much! I think it was just my nerves. At about 11:45 or so, Ellie starting moving around like CRAZY in there! I mean, kicking, rolling, jabbing...just going crazy. Then the nurse was trying to find her heartbeat for a little while and couldn't find it so I was getting really nervous. Finally she found it, but said sometimes when the baby starts acting like that it could mean that you are fully dilated! So she checked me and I was 10cm! Woohoo!
I was in no pain...the epidural was definitely doing its job. The nurse went to get the doctor, Matt and I said a little prayer together, and I started pushing at 12:04pm. I pushed for 8 minutes and our perfect little baby Ellie arrived at 12:12pm! Not kidding...easiest delivery ever! Matt cut the cord and I held my sweet girl for the first time! She was beautiful! She weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz and she was 19 inches long. We had some "skin-to-skin" time for about an hour and a half and she nursed too!
Ellie being weighed right after birth...she was ready to snuggle with her Mommy!
Audrey and Brady came to see her after school was over, and they were both so excited! Audrey held her and Brady held her for about 5 seconds before he decided he was done! I think he was just a little overwhelmed and scared to hold her yet. But they were both very sweet with Ellie! They were even there for her first bath...the nurse did it in my hospital room so we could all see and the kids took lots of pictures of Ellie's bathtime! It was sweet.
Bringing our baby girl home! This was Saturday, May 12, 2012:
It is crazy to think that we are done having kids now. It is a bittersweet feeling. Part of me is relieved to be done, but another part of me is sad that I will never feel those sweet kicks ever again or feel those funny hiccups in there! If kids didn't cost any money and if I had a live-in nanny and maid, I would have 20!!!
But we just know that we're done and we are beyond happy with our three precious angels!

Coming Along!
As of tomorrow, I will be 35 weeks pregnant. Shew!
This has been a tough one. Each pregnancy I have had has taken more and more of a toll on my body. I am looking forward to being done! Haha!
It would actually not be too bad if I didn't have this awful back and hip pain. I swear I feel like a 90 year old woman who just had a double hip replacement! Sleep these days is not pleasant, and I am definitely "waddling".
So, 5 weeks to go! I can make it!!!
The baby's room is coming along and is almost finished. Matt painted it pink, and we are using Brady's old crib and changing table in there. Her bedding is Audrey's old baby bedding, which I still love so it works out great. I also repainted an old chest of drawers I had and put new hardware on it. I have washed all of her clothes, blankets, and burp cloths. I love the smell of baby detergent!
We got curtains hung up in her room and I also made a lamp shade and painted a lamp base for her room! Pinterest has definitely helped me in the creativity department during this pregnancy!
BEFORE: This was a loft/bonus room area. We had to have it walled in and a closet added to make a 4th bedroom in our house.

During the renovation process: This wall and closet was added, the ceiling fan was moved over, and a light switch was added by the door.
In the process of being painted "Poetic Princess" pink!
The dresser I repainted and the lamp shade I made!
Ellie's crib is ready and her name has been hung on the wall! I got the idea for these letters from Pinterest. They are canvas covered in scrapbook paper with Mod Podge, then I painted the actual letters an ivory color and hot glued little buttons onto the front of them. I love how they turned out!
